Transportation Laboratory

In our transportation laboratory, bitumen penetration, softening point determination and flash point determination tests are performed within the scope of "CE 352-Introduction to Transportation and Traffic Engineering" course.

With these experiments, it is aimed that our students to have knowledge about how to determine the engineering properties of bituminous materials. Bitumen penetration tests are used to determine the hardness and consistency of bituminous materials. The high temperature resistance of bituminous materials is measured by softening point testing.

With the flash point testing , the flash point of bituminous materials is determined for the purpose of prevent ignition and fire hazards that may occur in bituminous materials during heating in practice. In addition to educational experiments, Los Angeles, Marshall and California carriage rate experiments are also conducted  in our laboratory for research studies.
